Commercial Van Fit-Out & Conversion
Esmark Finch Vehicle Engineering converts commercial vans into working vehicles for trades, utilities, service fleets and emergency operators across Ireland. Every conversion is designed, built and inspected in-house at our Dublin facility under ISO 9001.
What is a commercial van conversion?
A commercial van conversion turns an empty panel van into a purpose-built mobile workspace. A typical fit-out includes ply-lining, a non-slip floor, racking and shelving, secure storage, 12V electrics, interior lighting and exterior graphics. The goal is that the vehicle carries the right tools, in the right order, safely secured while driving.
This is different from a campervan conversion, which builds living space for leisure use. Esmark Finch works exclusively on commercial and emergency service vehicles.
What does a van fit-out from Esmark Finch include?
A full commercial fit-out covers the interior, the electrical system and the exterior:
- Ply-lining and flooring — protects the van’s bodywork and gives a durable, cleanable working surface
- Racking and shelving — modular bott vario3 systems configured to the tools and stock the vehicle actually carries
- Secure storage — lockable cupboards, drawer units and tool cases
- Electrics — 12V distribution, auxiliary power, inverters and charging points
- Interior and work lighting — LED load area lighting and rear work lamps
- Beacons and warning lighting — where the vehicle operates roadside or on site
- Vehicle graphics — ultrasonically cut and edge-sealed fleet livery
All of these are delivered in-house. We do not subcontract the build, which is how we keep control of quality and hold to our ISO 9001 audit process.
What is bott vario3 and why does it matter?
bott vario3 is a modular vehicle racking system manufactured by bott GmbH in Germany. Esmark Finch is the exclusive bott vario3 partner in Ireland, which means Irish fleets get the system supplied, configured and installed by a single ISO 9001 certified provider rather than importing components and arranging fitting separately.
vario3 is built from aluminium and steel modules that bolt to fixed mounting points in the van. Because it is modular, the layout can be reconfigured if the vehicle changes role, and units can be transferred to a replacement van at the end of the lease rather than scrapped with it.
How long does a commercial van fit-out take?
A single van fit-out typically takes 5 working days from vehicle drop-off to handover.”
Fleet orders are scheduled in batches.
Lead time depends on the specification and on parts availability. We confirm a delivery date in writing before work begins.
Can you fit out a whole fleet?
Yes. Esmark Finch handles both single vehicles and multi-vehicle fleet programmes. We convert more than 300 vehicles per year at specification in Ireland, carrying out research and design ahead of the build to identify new innovations while preserving all of the vehicle’s original safety systems.
For fleet work we build and sign off a reference vehicle first, so the specification is agreed and proven before the rest of the programme runs. Every subsequent vehicle is built to that approved standard and verified by our own audit team.
Which vans do you work with?
We fit out all major commercial van makes and models, including Ford Transit and Transit Custom, Volkswagen Transporter and Crafter, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Vito, Renault Trafic and Master, Toyota Proace, and Škoda commercial vehicles.
We have worked with Toyota & Lexus Ireland for over four years on projects ranging from single vehicle conversions to full fleets, and with Škoda Ireland on electric fleet conversions.
Do you also convert emergency service vehicles?
Yes. Alongside commercial fit-outs, Esmark Finch designs and builds vehicles for An Garda Síochána, fire and ambulance services, Civil Defence, military and security organisations in Ireland, the UK and Europe. See Emergency Service Vehicles for that side of the work.
